Securing Your PC
Create a Strong
Password
God. Love. Happy. These are a few of the most common
passwords people choose to protect their most sensitive
information. They are also the easiest to guess, and the first
passwords all cracking software checks first.
When creating a password, there is a criterion you can follow to create an air-tight, hard to guess and crack password.
Criteria 1: Password length should be at LEAST 6 characters. I know this sound like a lot to many people, but the more characters you have the better chance you have to keeping the password secure and harder to crack.
Criteria 2: Use at least on number and symbols
in you password (e.g. %#@^!&*@)
Criteria 3: Do not
use trivial passwords – there should be NO pattern to the
sequence of characters, or an obvious meaning behind them. For
example, do not use the number “4” as the word “for” like
this: “good4you!”
Criteria 4: This is the most
difficult one to follow, but using best security practices you
should change you password every 90 days or
so.
Criteria 5: The most obvious of all – do not share
your password with
others!
